Marvel Rivalshas revealed that there will be 10 free skins and MVP animations to try duringSeason 3 when it starts on Friday, but those free items are limited to a very specific group of fans.Marvel Rivals' free-to-play model has been pretty popular among fans, overall. All gameplay-related additions, like new heroes, maps, and balance adjustments, have been free, and there have also been several opportunities to earn some skins for free, but this new incentive to try new costumes for a limited time is drawing quite a bit of attention.
Announced by the officialMarvel RivalsX account, there will be10 trial costumes to try during Season 3 and 3.5 for freeif you are a current college student (viaComicbook). According to theNetEase Gameswebsite, college student fans will need to complete a student verification process in-game and have an active student email address. The 10 skins and MVP animations are not permanent and will only be usable during Season 3 and 3.5.

Marvel Rivals Perks Require Student Verification
A Student Email Address Is Required
The verification process detailed on NetEase Games' website ispretty straightforward. Players will just need to launchMarvel Rivalson whatever platform they are playing on, navigate to settings, and then to community, and select the new College Perks button. After that, players will just need to enter their student email and the verification email sent to that email address, and that’s it. A lot of fans areexcited about the Season 3 Battle Pass, but none of the trial costumes are a part of the new season.
The description in the College Perks tab reads:“free trial of 10 rotating Costumes and MVPs,“so it doesn’t seem like all of them will be available at once. The incentive, if it continues into Season 4, will likely feature different skins as well. The list of free trial skins and MVP animations for Season 3 and 3.5 is as follows:

Reactions Seem To Be Mixed
The skins inMarvel Rivalsare expensive, and with therecently added Combat Chestsopening up yet another form of microtransactions, the reactions to the College Perks incentive arepretty mixed overall. Some fans on X are finding it a neat way to try skins before purchasing, others wish it were a different set of 10 skins, and a large group wishes the skin trials were for a broader audience than just college students.DABOSSexpressed disappointment at the limitations, writing:“Man yall have fun bc I already passed college.”
Given the large number of skins inMarvel Rivalsand the high price tag that comes along with most of them, there was bound to be some disappointment about a limited free trial aimed at a specific group of fans. A larger costume trial would have been nice, but the game still has multiple opportunities to earn free skins, and making monetization fair in a free-to-play game is always challenging. NetEase Games has a great track record of listening to fan feedback forMarvel Rivals, so there could be changes made to this idea in the future.
