One ofMarvel’smost revealing costumes has officially returned, but how long will it last? Comic book costumes have sparked their share of controversy, and a forthcoming variant cover forCloak or Dagger#1 will keep the discussion going a little longer,at least as Dagger’s classic (and revealing) outfit makes a surprising return.
Marvel released their October solicitations, including a first look atCloak or Dagger#1. Written by Justina Ireland and drawn by Lorenzo Tammetta, it ushers in a new status quo for the fan-favorite duo. Marvel’s solicitation reads as follows:

GHOSTED!
X YEARS LATER, and Tandy and Tyrone have tied the knot – but their bond has come with a terrible cost. Now they can no longer exist on the same plane at the same time. Reunited at last, the fan-favorite characters from the hit Marvel Rivals face a love story warped by power and fate.
Notably, Ivan Talavera’s variant cover features Dagger in an early costume, one revealing a good deal of skin.

Dagger Has Been Controversial Since Her Debut
Dagger’s Revealing Outfit Remains the Same
Dagger, one half of Cloak and Dagger, has worn several different outfits since her debut in 1982. The pair were conceived as embodying light and darkness, as seen in how they dressed: Cloak in a large, billowing cape that served as a portal to a dark realm, and Dagger in an all-white bodysuit.

And it is Dagger’s classic suit that has stirred up so much controversy. The suit reveals a lot of Dagger’s skin. Just how revealing the outfit ends up differs from artist to artist, with some downplaying the scandalous elements while others stress these aspects. This is in contrast to her partner, whose cape covers every inch of him.
Not All Daggers Are Created Equal, Nor Do They Wear Revealing Outfits
Marvel RivalsGave Dagger the Perfect Costume
In her 43 years of existence, Dagger’s costume has undergone modifications, but the “cleavage window” remains consistent, but there have been some variations. The Dagger of the first Ultimate universe wore a far more modest costume that covered the controversial parts. When Dagger appeared in theUltimate Spider-Mancartoon, she was fully covered there as well.
A new generation of fans are discovering Cloak and Dagger, thanks toMarvel Rivals. In that game, Dagger’s costume is a far cry from her classic outfit. Dagger’sMarvel Rivalslook consists of a bodysuit that reveals nothing, and is complimented by a jacket. This Dagger variant is ready for battle, and her outfit reflects this mentality.
Will Dagger’s Classic, Revealing Outfit Make Its Return?
Ivan Talavera’s Variant Cover Could Simply be a Fun Callback
Cloak and Dagger are once again stepping into the spotlight inCloak or Dagger, which puts a new spin on their dynamic. Marvel has not yet revealed interior art for the first issue, meaning fans will have to wait until its release to see if Dagger’s classic outfit will return to the comics as well.
Ivan Talavera’s variant cover toCloak or Dagger#1 could be nothing more than a fun acknowledgment of the character’s past, right as she and Cloak enter a new phase in their lives. Dagger’s revealing all-white outfit is one of the most controversial in theMarvelUniverse, but it is also, for better or for worse, iconic.
Cloak or Dagger#1 is on sale October 29 from Marvel Comics!
