Lennie James shares his insight about the future of his character, Morgan Jones, inThe Walking Deadfranchise. James portrayed the fan-favorite Morgan inThe Walking DeadandFear the Walking Dead.Morgan was killed off inThe Walking Deadcomic book series, but Jones is alive in AMC’sWalking DeadTV universe, prompting speculation that his character may return in one of the spin-off shows to have aired sinceFear the Walking Dead’s conclusion in 2023.
Speaking toScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns,Lennie James says that there isn’t any Morgan Jones storyline in the worksfor any of the ongoing or upcomingWalking DeadTV spinoffs. In the emotionalending ofFear the Walking Dead, Morgan is seen returning to Alexandria, Virginia, in an attempt to link up with Rick Grimes and other survivors he’s befriended through the years. Yet, despite Morgan still being alive, James has explained the situation as follows:

I haven’t heard anything. That’s the truth of the situation. But also, the truth of the situation is, if I had heard anything, I wouldn’t tell you. But, in all honesty, I haven’t heard anything. I do get asked that question on a regular basis, but as things stand, as of today, I’ve heard nothing.
He’s Unlikely To Appear In Ongoing Spinoff Shows
Lennie James admitting that he hasn’t heard anything about anotherWalking Deadproject involving his character likely means thatMorgan Jones won’t be appearing in the franchise’s two ongoing TV spinoffs,Dead CityandDaryl Dixon, any time soon. James' response virtually rules him out of the next seasons of both shows.
On the other hand, earlier this year,The Walking Dead’s TV franchise headScott M. Gimple hinted thatTales of the Walking Dead, a previous spinoff might be revived at a later date. If it is, then this show might providean opportunity for James to return to the franchise as Morgan.
Our Take On Lennie James’ Comments About Morgan’s Future In The Walking Dead
Morgan Jones Is Still Alive In The TV Franchise For A Reason
Lennie James has been very open about the fact that noWalking Deadreturn for Morgan Jonesappears to be in the pipeline. At the same time, just because franchise bosses haven’t informed James about their plans for Morgan as yet, that doesn’t mean these plans don’t exist. And, as James also indicated, if he is invited back toThe Walking Deadfranchise, he would keep his involvement a secret.
Morgan is one of the few major characters from the originalThe Walking DeadTV show not to have been killed off in any onscreen series. It’s only natural to assume that there’s a reason Lennie remains alive, which may well be revealed in a later spinoff show. Morgan’s final scene inFear of the Walking Dead, in which we see him sailing in the direction of his friend Rick, with his daughter by his side, would, in a sense, be the perfect ending for the character. But, as we all know, things don’t quite work that way inThe Walking Deaduniverse.
