A steady stream of news regarding theNintendo Switch 2has been trickling in during the run-up to its release on June 5, and a new feature unveiled will help you find your misplaced Joy-Con 2 controllers. The new Joy-Cons have already proven their novelty withmouse-like controls, which will offer new options in games likeMetroid Prime 4: Beyond, but Nintendo has added a major quality-of-life feature to the detachable controllers.
The new Nintendo Today app has revealed a new feature of the Switch 2 called Search for Controllers. As recorded by X (formerly Twitter) userStealth40k(viaGameSpot),the Nintendo Switch 2 home screen contains a button labeled “Search for Controllers,” which prompts the selected Joy-Con to vibrate and emit a sound. The video goes on to show that you might find the feature useful if you happen to drop a Joy-Con into your couch cushions.

Conveniently Found On The Home Screen
The Search for Controllers button is found right on the Switch 2’s home screen, where the layout is nearly identical to that of its predecessor. Installed games dominate the center, with profile icons and system info like battery life up top, and a variety of buttons below. In the same row as the on-screen power button and the one leading to the Nintendo eShop is the new Search for Controllers feature.
You click Search for Controllers and what appears to be a list of paired Joy-Cons pops up. You select one, even if it’s not currently powered on, andthe Switch 2 sends a signal to the lost controller, initiating the vibration and regular sound. It’s unclear if this will also work with thenew Switch 2 Pro Controller, though it’s conceivable. It’s also possible that third-party accessories could make use of the feature, but this is also currently unconfirmed.

What appears to be (and largely is) a rather straightforward iteration of the Nintendo Switch actually has a handful of small but impactful new features.This Search for Controllers button is a wonderful quality-of-life addition, and joins the recently revealedoption limiting the Switch 2’s battery chargeas a thoughtful addition to the system’s suite of capabilities.
These join more overt innovations, like GameChat and the mouse controls, to set the Switch 2 apart from the original, even though they share the same form factor. Nintendo could have rested on its laurels and simply increased the Switch’s computing power, but these new features together make for a rather robust device. Joy-Cons are odd little controllers, and this new Search for Controllers feature will surely save many headaches forNintendo Switch 2users.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the successor to Nintendo Switch, scheduled for release in 2025. Confirmed as backwards compatible, it will play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. A full reveal is pencilled in for July 18, 2025.
