Set to “So Happy Together” by the Turtles, the latestBorderlands 3trailer promotes co-op, togetherness, and friendship, with it released today during Gearbox’s “Celebration of Togetherness” event. Sadly, many had thought that this event would announce cross-play for the forthcoming looter shooter threequel, but Randy Pitchford shot this down just before the event. Pitchford did expresses interest in the beloved feature, though, but clarified that there would nocross-play inBorderlands 3at launch.
In lieu of this highly-desired announcement, the developer released a new trailer for the game that celebrates this idea of togetherness. It begins slowly, with Zane the Operative inviting Amara the Siren to dance, and eventually ends with the four newBorderlands 3Vault Hunters dancing together. There is a ton of gunfire and loot involved in this dance routine, and even at one humorous point, Zane is dancing with his Digi-clone.
Those expecting something substantial from the “Celebration of Togetherness” event may be disappointed to learn that it was essentially just this trailer, with no major reveals concerningBorderlands 3announced. That said, the trailer is a wild ride befitting the style of the series, so just as many will likely enjoy it for what it is — a fittingly insaneBorderlands 3trailer.
There is a silver lining to the thought thatBorderlands 3will not have cross-play at launch. It’s worth noting that the looter shooter will not have the pearlescent orrainbow rarities at launcheither, but will likely add them later in their post-launch support of the game. Cross-play will likely come as long as a Quality of Life improvement “when practicable,” according to Pitchford himself, so hopefully, it’s part of the game’s post-launch support plans.
That’s not to say there won’t be some cool new content to check out at launch, however.Borderlands 3recently revealed a new pinging systemand a new duel mode that allows four players to face-off with each other. There will surely also be more to discover inBorderlands 3itself, and fans only have to wait a couple more months for the game to launch to get started.
Borderlands 3launches September 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
