Patch 5.21 is out now forFortnite, and it brings with it two limited time modes for fans to mix things up in the free-to-play battle royale shooter. The first LTM added in the latest update is called Soaring 50’s, and as its name suggests, it’s a new take on the standard50 vs 50 mode.
The Soaring 50’s mode inFortnitewill allow players to deploy their gliders in the middle of matches when they are higher than 10m in the air. Typically,Fortniteusually only lets players use their gliders when they first jump out of the Battle Bus, use a launch pad, or when they go through a rift, so Soaring 50’s will let players use gliders a lot more freely than they ever have before. It will be interesting to see if this added mobility changes the way players approach matches in any significant way.

The other LTM added in the latestFortniteupdate is called Sniper Shootout, and it’s a snipers only mode. Sniper Shootout has been inFortnitein the past, but this new version will be making a change by removing scoped assault rifles from weapon drops and swapping them for the brand new heavy sniper rifle.
Besides the LTMs, theheavy sniper rifleis the other big ticket item inFortnite’s latest update. This extremely powerful sniper rifle is able to deal serious damage to structures, and has already been a source of controversy for fans of the game as a result. Whether or not it will be as controversial in practice remains to be seen, but if fans dislike it, then Epic could remove the heavy sniper rifle from the game to rework it. After all, Epic has removed and reworked other weapons in the past, including the SMG and guided missile launcher.
In the meantime, fans can try out the heavy sniper rifle, the new version of Sniper Shootout, and the Soaring 50’s mode after they downloadFortnite’s latest update.
Fortniteis out now in early access for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
