The premiere ofWednesdayseason 2 is gradually approaching, but in the meantime, Netflix has continued releasing new teasers for the upcoming season, including one that completely reverses the motives of one season 1 character. Wednesday season 1 saw the titular Addams Family character begin school at the Nevermore Academy, meetingvarious types of outcastsalong the way. At the same time, Wednesday worked toward solving the mystery of her classmate’s murder, leading her to uncover the truth inWednesdayseason 1’s ending.
Now,Wednesdayseason 2will see the character return to Nevermore Academy for more outcast training and likely to solve another mystery. The new season will also introduce several new characters and outcast powers, along with giving some of Wednesday’s family members an even bigger role. While the updates about the new season have all been exciting so far, oneWednesdayseason 2 change already betrays a big season 1 narrative.

Barry Dort’s New Agenda In Wednesday Season 2 Betrays Principal Weems' Legacy
His Approach To Normies Is The Exact Opposite To Hers
Recently, Netflix released a new teaser for the upcoming season ofWednesday, which serves as a promotional video for Nevermore Academy and features Steve Buscemi’s Principal Dort. The trailer cleverly hints at what is to come in season 2 while promising new outcast students a safe place to land. In his persuasive speech, however,Principal Dort clearly separates himself from Principal Weemsand the disastrous end to the last school year, blaming everything on his predecessor.
The video sees Dort claiming that Weems’s “repugnant devotion to all things normie was a disaster,” and that his goal for the year is to correct her harmful legacy (viaNetflix). While audiences know that what happened last season was really a result of Crackstone attacking the outcasts, using Weems as a scapegoat, and claiming that her collaboration with normies ruined the school will destroy her legacyin the new season. As very few people know what really happened at Nevermore, only Wednesday and her friends could try to fight that narrative.

Morticia’s Increased Nevermore Role Can Help Redeem Weems' Legacy At The School
The Two Knew Each Other In School
Aside from Wednesday and her friends, there is only one person who will be at Nevermore in season 2 that could counter Dort’s attempts to smear Weems’s name: Wednesday’s mother, Morticia. Morticia Addams and Larissa Weems may not have always gotten along, but at least they truly did know each other. In contrast to Principal Dort’s new agenda, which blames the events of season 1 on Weems,Morticia may be able to bring a slightly more truthful representation of Nevermore’s former principalto the students.
Because Morticia and Principal Weems knew each other as students at Nevermore, it is possible that she could be more gentle with Weems’s legacy. While Netflix has not revealed exactly what role Morticia will take on at Nevermore in the upcoming season, we do know that she will be a regular at the school. Even if she seems unwilling to entirely go against Dort’s new anti-normie regulations, she could at least help remind students that Weems was not the villain for trying to create unity.

Dort Turning Weems Into A Villain Sets Him Up As A New Wednesday Addams Rival
Wednesday Ended Up Working With Weems By The End Of Season 1
At the beginning ofWednesdayseason 1, Wednesday was not thrilled about being at Nevermore and often got in trouble with Principal Weems for her snooping. By the season’s end, though, Wednesday worked with Weems to uncover Ms. Thornhill’s real identity. Though Weems ultimately died in the final fight, Wednesday does know the truth about what happened at Nevermore last year, andit seems unlikely that she will be happy with Principal Dort burying it.
Wednesday is always suspicious of people who are hiding information, so she may immediately question what Dort hopes to gain by blaming everything on Weems.
Even if Wednesday did not always see eye to eye with Weems, the two did have a good dynamic by the end of the season. Additionally, Wednesday is always suspicious of people who are hiding information, so she may immediately question what Dort hopes to gain by blaming everything on Weems. It will be interesting to learn whether Dort truly does have some ulterior motive in his actions, but if he does,Wednesday’s titular character will surely be the first to uncover it in season 2.
