Nintendo has announcedthe full discontinuation of the program on their official support site, noting that players have until July 26, 2025 to claim and use them. The catch? The program was never available for Nintendo Switch 2 titles.
As the cost of software rises globally, it makes sense that vouchers are on the way out, especially sinceNintendo never guaranteed that they’d work on their latest hardware. Ideally, they could be reintroduced, but at the very least, there’s a fairly long window for their discontinuation. Not only that, you have a year from their purchase date to use your vouchers either way.
What Are Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers?
If You’ve Never Used Them, You’re On A Time Limit
Nintendo Switch Game Voucherswere introduced in 2019 alongsideSuper Mario Maker 2, as a bonus for Switch Online members. The idea was that instead of buying two titles for $120, you’d commit to purchasing two select games directly through Nintendo for $100, for a savings of $20. Nintendo added a “growing list” of games, which mostly consisted of first-party releases, but also had some third-party titles.
The Switch voucher program wasa great way to save some cash and prop up your Switch library, especially for newer adopters. You can grab perpetually fully-priced Nintendo games likeSuper Smash Bros. UltimateandSuper Mario Bros. Wonderon the cheap, or at least, cheaper than Nintendo typically allows. Amazingly, any eShop gift card deals online would stack, so you could save even more if you were vigilant.

“As of 11:59 PM Pacific Time August 17, 2025, it will no longer be possible to purchase Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Any vouchers you purchase on or before that date will work exactly as they currently do—unused vouchers expire 12 months after the date of purchase.”
Nintendo Needs A Replacement Deal
Ideally For Switch 2 Games
It’s obvious why Nintendo is discontinuing the program, as they’ll be in complete Switch 2 marketing mode by January 2026. It’ll be time for them to transition all their efforts to the new platform, and that could involve additional deals or Switch Online exclusive programs that utilize the Switch 2. While we have roughly six months to plan for the end of the voucher deal,I hope Nintendo is also figuring out a replacement program.
After a token amount of time, it would be great ifNintendocould replace the program and incorporate the Switch 2, perhaps at a higher price point to reflect the ongoing rise in costs for Switch 2 software. If the publisher can find a way to make it work, fans will appreciate the bonus. For now, Switch Online is taking away an incentive without offering anything in return.
