One Piecedelivered a far better episode than its recent outings with episode #1140, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #1141 and beyond. The Egghead arc is slowly but surely heading into its climax, and hopefully, every new turn will be exciting to watch play out.
While things seemed to have gotten worse for everyone in the midst of the Buster Call, a sudden twist involving Bonney turned everything around for them at the last moment, and surprisingly, things only got better from there. There’s still no telling how things will go from here, but it’s hardly the hopeless situation it once appeared to be.

One Piece Episode 1139 Review: The Anime Struggles To Find Its Footing
One Piece Episode 1139 In Review
While episode #1139 was far better than episode #1138, it still wasn’t that great an episode to speak of. The pacing was far better, at least by comparison, but it mostly existed to set up the stakes for the climax, and because of that,One Pieceepisode #1139 ultimately had little to no meaningful substance to it.
That being said, the episode still worked because of how dramatic the points it was setting up were, especially whenever the focus was on Vegapunk. Everything is in place for a truly dramatic climax, and judging by the phenomenal new opening by Ellegarden, it’s sure to be great to watch when it finally plays out in full.

Following the conclusion ofKuma’s flashback arc,One Pieceis in an awkward place where it needs to head into Egghead’s finale, but it lacks the means to do so completely smoothly with everything that’s still going on.One Pieceepisode #1139 was a prime example of how that can be a problem, but fortunately, episode #1140 was much better.
What Happened In One Piece Episode 1140?
Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Yasuhiro Tanabe
InOne Pieceepisode #1140, “An Admired Hero - The Warrior of Liberation Who Saves Bonney”, the Marines attempted to arrest Luffy, but he had finally digested all the food he ate and returned to full strength. From there, Luffy quickly jumped back into Gear 5 and went back to the others, the entire island bouncing alongside him with every step.
Meanwhile, before the Pacifistas could kill everyone, Bonney, as per Vegapunk’s instructions, ordered the Pacifistas to stop and help them escape. Surprisingly, the Pacifistas listened and started attacking the battleships, and it was revealed that Vegapunk secretly programmed the Pacifistas to treat Bonney as having the highest authority over them.

For his last act of treachery, Saturn finally got tired of Vegapunk and dealt him a lethal wound. Saturn then commanded Kizaru to finish the job, and even with Sanji present, no one could even so much as touch Kizaru as he blasted everyone with light and moved to kill Bonney and Kuma.
Before Kizaru could deliver the final blow, though, Luffy finally came back and sent him flying with a powerful punch. That marked the first time Bonney saw Luffy in Gear 5, and that made her realize that Luffy embodied the power of Nika, whom she and Kuma worshipped, and Vegapunk declared that Luffy would cause the Buster Call would fail.

While that was happening, the Marine battleships were suddenly attacked by the people who were teased at the end of the previous episode, and it turned out to be the Giant Warrior Pirates led by Dorry and Brogy. They were there to help the Straw Hats escape Egghead, and curiously enough, they referred to Luffy as the Sun God.
The One Piece Anime Is Finally Back On Track
What Makes One Piece Episode 1140 So Great
One Pieceepisode #1140 featured a few weird bits of animation, most notably a surprising amount of shoddy CG animation, but moments like that were fortunately very sparse, and for the most part, episode #1140 was filled with gorgeous animation, most notably in any scene that involved Luffy or Kizaru.
Naturally, the episode also succeeded narratively, as between the return of Dorry and Brogy, the drama of Vegapunk’s injury, and the emotional catharsis of Bonney seeing the connection between Luffy and Nika, every narrative beat did a great job of advancing the story, perfectly highlighting howthe Egghead arc is heading into its climax.
Every narrative beat did a great job of advancing the story, perfectly highlighting how the Egghead arc is heading into its climax.
Between the great animation and how well the narrative was advanced,One Pieceepisode #1140 did a great job of pushing the story forward in every regard, and it’s the best episode of the past few weeks, by far. It’s great to see theOne Pieceanime back on track, and hopefully, episode #1141 will keep that momentum going.
