A couple months back, thousands of players were banned from accessing the online features inPokemon SunandMoonafter altering their save files. Now 7,651 additional players have been banned for the same reason, and will be met with the 090-0212 error code whenever they try to utilize the games' online features.
The 7,651 players banned fromPokemon SunandMoon’s online modes will be missing out on some of the games' biggest features. For example, they won’t be able to compete in certain online battles with other players, and they also won’t be allowed to participate in the Global Missions. Since most Global Missions inPokemon SunandMoonhave failed at this point, though, it’s unlikely that the latter will be quite as a big of a deal to the banned players.
IfPokemon SunandMoonplayers continue to alter their save files, they will continue to be banned from accessing online features, according to The Pokemon Company.Pokemon SunandMoonplayers utilizing altered save files will not receive notice before they are banned, and there doesn’t seem to be a way out of the ban, outside of purchasing additional copies of the games.

It’s possible that if this continues to be a problem forPokemon SunandMoonthat The Pokemon Company could dish out even harsher punishments, like restricting players from accessing other features in the games.
Players that want to avoid being banned inPokemon SunandMoonsimply need to play by the rules and avoid altering their save files. Those that do alter their save files or attempt to cheat online in other ways can expect The Pokemon Company to ban them from the games, just as it has already done to thousands of other players.
