Ghostsstar Rose McIverposted a behind-the-scenes video of the cast on set on her Instagram Stories at the end of July 2025. The short clip confirmed thatMary Holland is reprising her role as Patience in season 5(perX). In the video, Holland can be seen putting together a puzzle alongside Román Zaragoza, Matt Walsh, and Rebecca Wisocky.

Given howtheGhostsseason 4 finale ended,Holland’s appearance as Patience in season 5 makes sense.The CBS sitcom’s fourth season ended on quite a cliffhanger. Jay hired a publicist duringGhostsseason 4, episode 22, and his new employee turned out to be Elias Woodstone, now the devil’s emissary. So, Jay has essentially sold his soul to the devil.
Patience rose from her grave intheGhostsseason 4 finalebecause she sensed an evil presence (aka Elias). She then tried to stop Sam’s book launch party at Woodstone Mansion. Unfortunately, no one listened to her. As such,Patience’s anger might dissuade her from helping the other characters save Jay,but they’ll probably need her.
However, Patience isn’t exactly on good terms with the other ghosts (and Sam and Jay) in the CBS sitcom, meaning she might be another problem for them to deal with in season 5.

Holland’s Character Is Controversial
Although she only appeared in four episodes ofGhostsseason 4, Patience quickly became a controversial figure in the series. She isa Puritan ghost who was banished from her village for having too strong values,meaning her thoughts and beliefs are quite outdated. Almost everything to Patience is a sin, which doesn’t make for a very fun character.
Ghostsseason 5 premieres on Thursday, June 15, 2025, at 8:30 pm ET on CBS, following the first episode ofGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageat 8 pm ET.
Consequently, some don’t believe that Patience fits in with the rest of the ghosts. She also didn’t have much development, but her time on the show was limited. Hopefully,Holland’s return will allow her character to grow.Sincethe cast ofGhostsjust started filming season 5, Patience will presumably appear in the premiere, giving her more time to become less divisive.
