The Legendary Generation 3 Pokémon Kyogre is set to return to raids inPokémon GO, but it is one of the toughest battles in the game if you don’t go in prepared with the right team. As part of the regular raid schedule inPokémon GO, the 5-star raids regularly change and switch around. This is on top of changes for thenew Delightful Days seasonthat recently launched. Kyogre will be available in raids fromSaturday, August 17, 2025, until Monday, June 23.
While there are harder specialist raids, for Mega and Max Battles, 5-star raids are typically the toughest to defeat inPokémon GO, with the majority of Legendary Pokémon fitting into this tier. This includes Kyogre, who was released into the game back in 2018. However, despite this, it is rarely available to catch inPokémon GOand only through raids. You will need to find it in a raid either nearby or with aremote raid pass, defeat it, and then you will be presented with an encounter and a chance to catch it.

Despite its Legendary status and its huge attack power,Kyogre is a pure Water-type. However, I have found it is much easier if you use at least four players in a team.

Despite only having two weaknesses, there are a host of strong Pokémon that are good options inPokémon GOfor countering Kyogre. The best Pokémon for quickly taking its HPis Mega Sceptile.All of the Mega forms are stronger than their regular versions and can do more damage. Additionally, Sceptile has access to two of the best Grass-type moves, Bullet Seed and Frenzy Plant. If you don’t have a high CP one,Mega Venusaur and Zarudeare the next best grass option and can learn similar moves.
As long as you stick to Electric- or Grass-type Pokémon for all of your six Pokémon, you will be able to consistently chip away at Kyogre’s health.
Similarly, there are a lot of good Electric-type possibilities that you can use. Despite not being a Mega Pokémon,Zekrom remains one of the best attackers inPokémon GOwhen equipped with Charge Beam and Fusion Bolt.Xurkitree and Mega Ampharosare also Pokémon that can be switched in, as well as the Legendary Pokémon Shadow Raikou and Shadow Zapdos. For any of the suggested Pokémon, you can use multiple of the same one if you have enough that are also high CP.
