I’d first perceived the new Mega Dragonite design as a problem inPokémon Legends: Z-A, but it actually makes perfect sense and I couldn’t be happier with it.Mega Evolutions are making a strong comeback in the main series with the arrival of the next game. This is because the title will be set in Lumiose City in Kalos, the region forPokémon X and Y, which originally introduced the gameplay mechanic. There are severalreturning Mega Evolutions inPokémon Legends: Z-A.

While you can expect to see the likes of Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Lucario, and many other well-known Mega Evolutions, the game will also introduce brand-new Mega Evolutions. So far, Nintendo has only presented one of them, but theleaked Mega Evolutions inLegends: Z-Aindicate that you will have access to several new forms that haven’t been seen before.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dragonite Has Been Revealed

The Gen 1 Pokémon’s New Form Has A Few Differences

Now, following the most recent Pokémon Presents event, which was broadcast live on the officialPokémonchannel on Twitch,Nintendo revealed a new Mega Evolution forLegends: Z-A, Mega Dragonite. The reveal confirms one of the leaks, which indicated that the Generation Dragon-type would get a brand-new form in the upcoming title. Mega Dragonite retains the original creature’s body type, but has a few new elements integrated into its design.

Notably, the antennas it has on its head are replaced by white wings. Additionally,Mega Dragonite also gets a pearl-like sphere near the tip of its tail. Lastly, the new Mega Evolution also gets a pearlescent coating to its body, making it somewhat shine differently from the regular Dragonite form. As a consequence, its eyes are a brighter tone of green. Mega Dragonite’s official reveal ends one of the potentialproblems with Mega Evolutions inPokémon Legends: Z-A; there were concerns the game wouldn’t actually introduce new Mega Evolutions.

Mega Dragonite’s Design In Pokémon Legends: Z-A Is The Work Of A Genius

The Creature’s New Form Honors Its Previous Evolutions

Even though Mega Dragonite’s design may initially seem bland and overly simplistic, the logic behind it is actually the work of a genius.By Mega Evolving, Dragonite looks back on its evolutionary family and honors it. This was acknowledged by userStarlit_Autumnon X, who praised the design, pointing out that it brings back “lost majestic elements” of its previous forms.

The wings on its head and the pearl on its tail are reminiscent of Dragonair. When the second-form evolves into Dragonite, it dispenses the wings and pearl, and Dragonite hardly looks like it’s part of theDratini family inPokémon. The design, however, didn’t please everyone. UserJcar273_on X wonders, “why does that look so bad?” As usual, new Pokémon designs are divisive among the community, and Mega Dragonite is a perfect example of that.

Mega Dragonite is confirmed to be Dragon- and Flying-type.

It’s known that Dragonair can expand the size of the wings on its head to fly, as seen in the anime, and it seems like Mega Dragonite’s design is nodding to that. Usually, Mega Evolutions are all about making Pokémon look rougher and tougher, and Mega Dragonite’s design goes in the opposite direction, instead opting for a more delicate approach. I was worried thatPokémon Legends: Z-Acould mess up a potential Mega Dragonite, but after realizing the inspiration behind its design, I am more than satisfied.
