As of this August, it will have been five years since the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer. In 2022, the MCU carried on Boseman’s superhero legacy throughBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, which included the death of his character, T’Challa, as a crucial storyline, and honored the late actor’s memory.

After the death of T’Challa in the MCU,Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverrevealed the mantle of the Black Panther would be passed on to T’Challa’s younger sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. Additionally, theBlack Panther: Wakanda Forevercredits scenerevealed Boseman’s character has a son in the MCU, a young boy named Toussaint, whose Wakandan name is also T’Challa. Since then, there’s been speculation about whether the young T’Challa would grow up to become another Black Panther, and who would play the older version of the character.

What Damson Idris' MCU Black Panther Comments Mean

When an actor who isn’t part of the MCU yet is in talks for a role, they have to be extremely cryptic, if not flat out denying any reports, given that it may not be a done deal. From Idris' Black Panther comments, it definitely seems possible that there are discussions taking place in some capacity, given how he phrased his responses in this interview. Since there were previous reports thatthe MCU was exploring recasting T’Challathrough the multiverse, it wouldn’t be surprising if this is what Idris is potentially being eyed for, if he is actually having talks with Marvel Studios.

As The Multiverse Saga is heading into Phase 6 with their remaining movies and TV shows set to finish off this huge storyline, bringing in a T’Challa variant is more than possible, especially in films likeAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. Even when asked if T’Challa’s son could be inAvengers: Doomsdayas another Black Panther, Shuri actress Letitia Wright was very coy about her answer, making the timing of Idris' response even more compelling. If he isn’t cast as a T’Challa variant, he could always play the grown-up version of T’Challa’s son.

Our Take On Damson Idris' MCU Black Panther Comments

From Idris' latest MCU comments about a possible Black Panther role, it wouldn’t be shocking if he’s having conversations about becoming part of the franchise as some version of T’Challa or perhaps even another Black Panther character. No matter how they do it, it would definitely be interesting to see how Shuri, as the MCU’s Black Panther, would react to seeing another one by her side. But for now, time will tell if 2025 will have any further updates about any new Black Panther in theMCU, as The Multiverse Saga nears its end.
