Salvatore has announced his upcoming book,The Finest Edge of Twilight, the first in a new planned series that will see a new hero take up Drizzt’s legacy. The new series centers on Breezy Do’Urden, the daughter of Drizzt Do’Urden and Catti-brie, so those who loveDungeons & Dragons' iconic Forgotten Realms drowranger need not worry that the next series will get too far away from him. Make no mistake, though, Breezy is forging her own identity here, as the press release says:

Born Briennelle Zaharina, Breezy isn’t a brand-new character to the expansiveDungeons & Dragonsuniverse, but this will be the first time she’s stepped out of the shadows of her famous father and mother to write her own story. As the press release says, “‘My name is not Drizzt’s daughter,’ she declares—and she means it.”
As such, while the series will certainly include some old, familiarcharacters fromThe Legend of Drizzt, the publisher has made clear that this series is intended to be wholly accessible to newcomers. WithDungeons & Dragonshaving exploded into the mainstream in the past decade, it’s an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to dip their toe into the world beyond the tabletop game itself.

Drizzt’s Story Has Been Told; It’s Time For Something New
While Drizzt Do’Urden is a fan-favorite for a reason, a character who has truly earned the moniker of “iconic,” R.A. Salvatore has more than told his story. The barrier-breaking dark elf has a whopping 40 novels in his series, been included in companion and game guide books, several video games, and other media. While we have yet to get thatlong-rumored Drizzt Do’Urden TV show, he’s hardly lacking in character and story development.
A new series about Breezy Do’Urden, however, is a brilliant way to touch upon Drizzt’s legacy and return to a familiar world with fresh ideas. We know next to nothing about Breezy, but the reveal that she is a monk training in the Way of Shadow opens up so many storytelling possibilities for the newestDungeons & Dragonsprotagonist.
