Warning: Spoilers ahead forResident Alienseason 4, episode 10, “The End Is Here.“Resident Alienseason 4, episode 10,“The End Is Here,” brings the sci-fi dramedy to a closeafter four years of wild storytelling, and the finale provides the answer to a question that has been bubbling away in the background for a while now. The reveal comes in the form of what seems like a throwaway line fromAlan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle.

With theResident Aliencastnow disbanded, the show has been announced as over by creator Chris Sheridan and USA Network. WhileResident Alien’s endingleaves the door slightly ajar for potential spinoffs and/or a revival, the show isn’t confirmed to be back in any form in the near future. So,“The End Is Here” rounds things off very nicely.

Harry Confirms In The Show’s Finale That Resident Alien Takes Place Over Just 2 Years

4 Seasons = 2 Years For Alan Tudyk’s Sci-Fi Show

Resident Alien’s timeline has always been relatively easy to follow, although it’s not always been clear exactly how long has passed since Harry arrived on Earth in the 2021 pilot episode. When Asta (Sara Tomko) goes to Harry about the dream she had that saw an alien from his planet landing on Earth,Harry unknowingly clears things up for the audience.

Tudyk’s character jokingly says that the alien to whom Asta is referring is him: “Two years ago, try and keep up!” So, even thoughResident Alienwas actually on the air for four years, the residents of thefictitious town of Patience, Colorado, have only experienced two years passing since Harry’s arrival.

Resident Alien Didn’t Just Focus On Events Within Those 2 Years

The Show Hasn’t ONLY Documented Harry’s Time On Earth

Resident Alienis a fairly linear show, but it has had periods where certain events have been shown out of order. For instance, the show had a handful of scenes that saw Tudyk playing the original human version of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. All of those scenes took place before the main story, as Alien Harry killed his human counterpart and took his place.

There have also been flashbacks to the younger years of Peter “The Alien Tracker” Bach, which showed how he lost his son to the Grey Aliens. In addition,Resident Alienseason 2’s Goliath timeline showed a version of Earth in an alternate distant future, where the planet’s surface had been left scorched and devoid of life.

So,Harry’s “two years ago” line is an oversimplificationwhen it comes to using it to determine the show’s overall timeline. However,Resident Aliendoes mostly focus on the period that began with Harry’s arrival and ended with his departure in “The End Is Here,” which just so happens to be two years long.

Resident Alien Taking Place Over Just 2 Years Makes The Show Even More Chaotic

Resident Alienmanages to make its audience laugh one minute and then cry the next, and it does both just as well as other dramedies. Where the show stands out from its competitors is the surprisingly complex worldbuilding and constant additions to its sci-fi lore. This chaotic formula has madeResident Alienexcitingly energetic throughout its run.

Resident Alien’s fast-paced and dense arc feels like it fits nicely into a four-year period, but now that it’s been revealed to have taken place in half of that time, it makes it even more obvious how much Harry and his friends got up to while he was on Earth. So, while it wasn’t a vital piece ofResident Alienlore, the show’s timeline is now confirmed.
