It seems like theStar Foxfranchise hasn’t quite gotten the love it deserves over the past few years. While Fox McCloud and company were DLC characters inStarlink: Battle For Atlason Nintendo Switch, there hasn’t been a proper entry in theStar Foxfranchise since 2016. However, that doesn’t mean fans have abandoned the franchise. StellarStar Foxart byGod of WarartistRaf Grassetti began circulating online recently, and it caught the eye of one ofRogue One: A Star Wars Story’s writers, Gary Whitta.
Over on Twitter, Whitta expressed an interest in writing an animated film based on one of Grassetti’s artworks. The piece shows an incredibly-detailed rendition of the cast ofStar Fox, including Fox, Peppy, Slippy, Falco, and Wolf. If anything, it almost sounds like aSuper Smash Bros.tier list. The artwork is very impressive, which falls in line with what Grassetti usually produces.

Of course, the odds of aStar Foxmovie don’t seem that high. Nintendo has put its games on the big screen before with titles likeDetective Pikachu, though that released to mixed reviews. Of the games in Nintendo’s lineup that could get on-screen adaptations,Star Foxwould certainly be one of the better fits, it just doesn’t seem like something Nintendo would have that much interest in doing. Of course, Whitta, whose writing credits also include movies likeBook of Eli,does have a fair bit of experience with sci-fi. The writer would likely be a good choice to take on a film based on the characters.
That being said, the odds of Whitta, Grassetti, and Nintendo all coordinating with a major movie studio to get a project off the ground is, at best, a pipe dream. It would be incredible to see an animatedStar Foxmovie with a triple-a budget, and the project would likely be in safe hands with Whitta, but there would be quite a few hoops to jump through before anything got off the ground.
Maybe someday an animatedStar Foxmovie will happen, but until then fans will just have to keep hoping for some new games based on the anthropomorphic animals. The originalStar Foxwas one of theSNES games added to the Nintendo Switch, so at least there are some modern ways to enjoy the classic.
