There’s no doubt thatGears of Waris one of Xbox’s biggest and most important franchises. Considering this, it’s no surprise that rumors point toGears of Warhaving a major presence at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference - a presence that will apparently include the announcement of aGears of Warbattle royale spinoff.
This rumor comes from Polygon, which says it’s “heard” that there are a total of threeGears of Wargames that will be announced at E3 this year. Besides theGears of Warbattle royale game, Microsoft is apparently set to announceGears of War 5, which ajob posting has already confirmed is in development, as well as real-time strategy spinoff in the vein ofHalo Wars.

ThreeGears of Wargames announced at one press conference may seem a little excessive, but at the same time, it may benefit Microsoft to leverage its most popular IP. As admitted by Microsoft itself, the Xbox One is struggling to deliver major first-party releases on a consistent basis, and three newGears of Wargames, in three different genres, sound like they could do a good job of filling any first-party release gaps.
Before fans get too excited about the potential for three newGears of Wargames, it’s important to note that none of this is confirmed. In fact, Microsoft has made comments in the past suggesting it willnot pursue its own battle royale game, which makes sense considering how much it has invested inPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. If Microsoft does decide to move forward with aGears of Warbattle royale game, it would essentially be competing with itself, as it publishesPUBGon Xbox.
Fans may be anxious to learn whether or not Microsoft is producing a battle royale version ofGeras of War, but luckily the wait for answers won’t be a long one. Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference will take place on Sunday, June 10 at 1:00pm Pacific, and fans can expect answers then.
Gears of War Battle Royaleis rumored to be in development for PC and Xbox One.
