When the first trailer dropped for theSonic the Hedgehogmovie, it was met with severe backlash from fans who foundSonic’s designto be lackluster. Many found the more humanoid take on the blue hedgehog to be downright creepy, and eventually the filmmakers were convinced to redesign Sonic’s look from the ground-up. We still haven’t seen the new Sonic design in an official capacity, but a pair of images that have appeared online may give fans their first look at the Sonic redesign.
We must caution that it’s entirely possible that these images are fake, but they are convincing fakes. They show Sonic with his signature white gloves, and eyes that look more inline with what fans of the video game series may expect. Overall, it’s a much more faithful take on the character, and it’s likely to please many fans who were upset by the initial Sonic the Hedgehog movie design.

Of course, there were those who were unimpressed by theSonic the Hedgehogmovie trailer for reasons other than Sonic’s look. Some felt as though the film looked a little too corny, and its real world setting wasn’t met with much enthusiasm. Jim Carrey’s Robotnik has earned quite a bit of praise, though, so maybe theSonic the Hedgehogmovie will be a surprise when it hits theaters early next year.
Whatever the Sonic redesign looks like, hopefully it’s worth it for the filmmakers. After all, theSonic the Hedgehogmovie was delayedto change Sonic’s look, and the process was assuredly an expensive undertaking. It could very well have balloonedSonic the Hedgehog’s budget, which would mean it would need to be particularly successful at the box office to justify a sequel. Of course, the film will likely need decent reviews and a positive audience reception if it hopes to spawn a franchise as well.
TheSonic the Hedgehogmovie trailermay have left some fans nervous for the final film, but it does have some very talented people like it. Besides the aforementioned Jim Carrey, the film also stars Ben Schwartz and James Marsden, so at least the cast is decent.
