Detective Pikachuhas been hailed as one of the better video game movies out there, and as a result, it’s spawned quite a few memes on the internet. One of those memes, the iconic Sad Pikachu, is now getting its own official plush toy.
The sadDetective Pikachutoy has been dubbed the ‘Shiwa Shiwa Pikachu’ in Japan, aka the ‘Wrinkly Pikachu,’ referring to the furrowed brow that appears on the face ofRyan Reynolds' Pikachuwhen he’s depressed. The wrinkled face and sagging ears look a bit odd, but it does bear a fairly strong resemblance to Pikachu as he’s sadly shuffling down the road singing thePokemontheme song to himself.

At this time, no release date has been provided for the toy, nor is there a price. However, theDetective Pikachutoy will eventually go on sale at Pokemon Center stores. It remains to be seen if it will also go on sale on the online Pokemon Center store available to buyers in the United States.

This isn’t actually the first iteration of an official sad Pikachu plush. Earlier this year, Banpresto unveiled a crying Pikachu plush toy that’s designed after Pikachu in the anime. It’s based directly off of a scene with Pikachu inPokemon: The First Movie, where he cries over his trainer, Ash Ketchum.
While some appear to have an interest in Pikachu being sad, there’s plenty of good news surroundingDetective Pikachu. The film performed admirably in theaters, and is now available via digital release, ensuring that gamers can get their live actionPokemonfix in the comfort of their own homes. There is also a sequel slated for the future, though it may focus more on the newly-developedlive actionPokemonworld, rather than the little Detective himself.
Players who missed out on the originalDetective Pikachugame on the 3DS that started it all will get another chance to play it. The NintendoSwitch is getting a port of theDetective Pikachugame, complete with bonus content that will resolve the game’s original cliffhanger ending.
