Samurai Jack: Battle Through Timewas announced earlier this yearto much fanfare from fans of the animated series, which initially aired for four seasons on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004 before a 2017 revival on Adult Swim. As evidenced by the trailer which depicts Jack with long hair and a beard, the game will take place during the events of the Adult Swim revival.

SamuraiJack’sSwitch file size was confirmed earlier this yearand bodes well for other systems, allowing this to be an easily-digestible view into what made this series so beloved to get a revival more than a decade after it initially ended. With the game being based on theAdult Swim revivalas opposed to the Cartoon Network run, there is room for a more nuanced exploration of the character of Samurai Jack and his battle against his nemesis in Aku.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Timeisn’t the first time in which an Adult Swim property has been adapted for gaming, withRick and Mortyhaving received a virtual reality game. Considering that the game was created in partnership with series creator Genndy Tartakovsky, fans should have considerable faith that the game will be a faithful adaptation and could be yet anothergreat game based off a TV show.

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Timewill release on August 21 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
