Warning! SPOILERS For And Just Like That Season 3, Episode 5, “Under the Table”
Sex and the City’s revival show just subtly brought back an OG character I never thought we would see inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw reaches out to an old friend in episode 5, leaning into a communication style that the old pals used in the first season. In “Under the Table,” the story is heating up for the leading ladies ofAnd Just Like That’s cast, with Charlotte (Kristin Davis) getting news from her husband Harry (Evan Handler) that he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

While Charlotte navigates her most grave story yet, we get a glimpse of Carrie and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) as roommates. The story is shocking, with Miranda appearing completely nude, and irritating, with Carrie’s house guest eating all of her food. Still, it conveys the importance of personal space, no matter how big Carrie’s Gramercy Park feels without Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). Carrie is distracted by a neighbor inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 5, andthe story cleverly finds a way to include an originalSex and the Citycharacter.
And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 5 Brings Back Samantha Jones Via Text
Carrie Texts Samantha Jones About Duncan Reeves
While we didn’t get to see Kim Cattrall reprise her centralSex and the Citycharacter,we heard from Samantha Jones inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 5. Carrie reached out to her London-based pal via text after her altercation with Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), her downstairs neighbor. After the biography author moved back to New York for a six-month stint, he quickly took issue with Bradshaw walking around her apartment in heels. Since the author living below her is based in London for the other half of the year, Carrie reaches out to Samantha for intel.
Carrie asks Samantha what she knows about Duncan, andJones reports back that he’s a lot of fun. It’s a surprising development, as Reeves has been cranky since he arrived in New York. The tense living situation finally boils over when Duncan burns a pot of stew, allowing Carrie to save the day and break the ice. When Carrie confronts Duncan at dinner afterward with the hearsay that he’s pretty fun to be around, Duncan informs her that he lives in London for fun and stays in New York for work, explaining his irritated behavior.

While the text interaction is brief, it was on-brand for Samantha, with Jones predictably saying she wishes Reeves were“under her”in response to Carrie’s comment about Duncan living beneath her.The conversation is similar to the way the characters interacted inAnd Just Like Thatseason 1, with Carrie and Samantha iMessaging back and forth to explain Samantha’s absence. However, there’s a critical change to the interaction. Unlike in season 1, Carrie and Samantha’s relationship appears to be on good terms in season 3 followingKim Cattrall’s cameo appearance inAnd Just Like Thatseason 2.
Will Kim Cattrall Ever Return As Samantha After And Just Like That’s Season 2 Finale?
It Doesn’t Look Promising
Samantha’s reentering the picture sparks a conversation about whether Kim Cattrall will ever return toSex and the Cityas the iconic character. Cattrall appeared inAnd Just Like Thatseason 2’s finale, sharing a moment on-screen with Carrie. Her cameo was teased ahead of time, but it was still shocking to see Samantha Jones and Carrie Bradshaw side by side again. While they tuned in from separate corners of the world, the friends shared a FaceTime call, with Jones explaining that she intended to come to Carrie’s“last supper”but wasn’t going to make it.
It seems hasty to write off Samantha’s And Just Like That return completely.
While her season 2 cameo seemingly opened the door to Cattrall’s return, even after saying she wouldn’t be joining the revival show, the actor shut the door again ahead of the third season, withKim Cattrall saying that she wouldn’t be joiningAnd Just Like That’s season 3 cast. There’s no suggestion that Samantha Jones will return anytime soon. However, the show is keeping her story alive. Ultimately, with Jones appearing in season 2 despiteCattrall and Parker’s off-screen feud, it seems hasty to write off Samantha’sAnd Just Like Thatreturn completely.
