Konami hasn’t released a newSilent Hillgame since 2012, and there’s been no word on a new entry in the series since the companycanceled Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hillsproject. While some fans may have been holding out hope that Konami may one day make a newSilent Hillgame, things aren’t looking good for the fan favorite survival-horror franchise, as Konami has let theSilent Hillwebsite domain expire.

Those that try to visit theSilent Hillwebsite right now are given the opportunity to purchase it for $9,835, with it renewing at $10.98 every year. Now, it’s possible Konami still has plans forSilent Hilleven though it let the domain name expire, but things aren’t looking too good for the series at this time.

Its actions in recent years have made it clear that Konami doesn’t really seem to have any interest in developing traditional video games beyond itsPro Evolution Soccerseries. Instead it’s relegated its iconic games and characters to other mediums, evenlendingMetal Gear Solidto Ford to make car commercials.

Having David Hayter reprise the role of Solid Snake for a Ford commercial may actually be amusing to some fans, but Konami’s decision to use its biggest IP to make gambling machines has not been as well-received. The trailer for theMetal Gear Solid 3pachinko machine has been buried in dislikes, and the reception to the recently-revealedSilent Hillslot machinehas been similarly negative.

TheSilent Hillslot machine was unveiled earlier this year, and it is one of the onlySilent Hill-related projects Konami has pursued in recent years. However, if theCastlevaniaNetflix series and theMetal Gear Solidmovie adaptationare any indication, maybe fans will get the chance to see the survival-horror series live on in some other form besides slot machines. That remains to be seen, however.

In the meantime, Hideo Kojima has ideas for a horror game. With Kojima’sDeath Strandinghaving just recently launched, details are understandably scarce when it comes to his next project, but it may be the closest thing fans get to a newSilent Hillgame.
