Marvel Rivalsoffers some of the greatest superhero team-ups in recent memory, and a group of cosplayers at an anime convention came together for a stellar photo, but the image also ironically highlights one of the biggest problems with the game.Marvel Rivalsdoes not feature a role queue for its three character jobs: Vanguards, Duelists, and Strategists, which opens up a wide range of team compositions, but can also be frustrating when a player or two refuses to play a needed role.
In a Reddit thread byAbencoa, the large group ofMarvel Rivalscosplayers came together for a fun photo, but a lot of fans, including Abencoa, noticed there wasa distinct lack of people cosplaying the Vanguard characters, with Abencoa writing: “Even at Anime Expo, no one wants to play Tank.”

There appears to be only one Strategist in the photo, too (Invisible Woman). It’s unknown if this was just one photo of several others that could have been focused on other characters, but either way, fans are poking fun at how many Duelists are in the game.
There Are Far Fewer Vanguard Players Than Duelist Players
It’s Not Uncommon To See Teams Full Of Duelists
Marvel Rivalscurrently has a roster of 39 characters, with Phoenix joining the battle in Season 3 on July 11, which will also see severalbalance updates for existing characters. Blade will also join the roster at some point during Season 3, and with Phoenix confirmed to be a Duelist and Blade heavily rumored to also be a Duelist, thestaggering 20-Duelist character roster might be sitting at 22 by the end of Season 3, which would make the quantity disparity between Duelists, Vanguards, and Strategists even greater.
With the majority of the roster consisting of Duelists, and some of the most popular Marvel characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Wolverine all being Duelists, it issometimes hard to get balanced teams.Emma Frost joinedMarvel Rivalsat the start of Season 2 as a Vanguard, with Ultron joining halfway through as a Strategist. If the information about Blade ends up being true, Season 3 will be the first one to feature two Duelists and no additions to the already low number of Vanguards and Strategists.

Marvel Rivals' Variety In Team Compositions Is Nice, But It Can Be Frustrating
The Balancing Act Of Having Favorite Characters And Selecting What’s Best For Your Team Is Tricky
Marvel Rivalsis one of the only hero-shooters that doesn’t have a role queue, and with that comes a lot of creative freedom for teams, but also some frustration for players who want to help their team and arestuck with players who will not switch off from Spider-Man or another popular Duelist to help the team. With so many more Duelists than other roles, it’s almost inevitable that a lot of players will want to play a Duelist. The issue comes more from the initial lownumber of Vanguardsand Strategists.
Hopefully, asMarvel Rivalscontinues to get bigger, there will be a bigger focus on Vanguards, and maybe even new incentives for players to try out different roles. With only nine Vanguards and nine Strategists to pick from, as well as some players wanting to do more damage and rack up kills instead of shielding or offering support,Marvel Rivalscasual players may want to try experimenting with other roles and characters, since it seems unlikely that a role queue will come to the game in the near future.
