Sonic the Hedgehog 4is on the horizon, and excitement is building due to the new characters set to star in the sequel, Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. These movies do not typically adapt single video games in their entirety, but it seems as though the newest installment in the franchise will be partly based on the 1993 video gameSonic CD.
While nothing concrete has been confirmed aboutSonic 4, the fact that Amy and Metal appeared inSonic the Hedgehog 3’s post-credits scenemeans thatthey are undoubtedly going to be heavily focused on in the sequel. This is similar to Shadow, who was the focus ofSonic 3, and Tails, one of the focuses ofSonic 2.

InSonic CD, Amy and Metal were first introduced and acted as some of the main characters in that story. It makes sense thatSonic 4will draw heavily from that game, then. If it does,it could introduce an element from the games the film franchise has sorely missed.
Sonic 4 Introducing Little Planet From Sonic CD Could Expand The Movies Beyond Earth
Sonic 4 Has The Perfect Opportunity And Means To Grow The Universe
While the widerSonicuniverse that has been explored in the video games, shows, and other expanded media is enormous with galaxies of worlds and countless creatures within them, the movies have kept the franchise very grounded. They have not explored anywhere beyond Earth for anything more than a scene or two.
The only places beyond Earth that have been shown in the movies were Sonic’s home world of Mobius and the Mushroom Planet that Eggman was stranded in at the end of the firstSonicmovie.
This hasn’t been a huge negative. Keeping theSonicfranchiseon Earth is a good way to ensure that newer viewers aren’t lost in a sea of new names and places. However,Sonic 4is now the time for the movies to begin expanding the world.Sonic CD’s main location, Little Planet, provides the perfect opportunity to do that.
InSonic CD,Little Planet was a small, Earth-like planetoid with mystical propertiesthat appeared over Never Lake for one month every year. In the game, Eggman managed to restrain the entire planet and chain it to the ground to steal the Time Stones, driving the plot of the game forward.
Little Planet itself appearing would be a great showcase of the wider universe, while still keeping the new additions digestible for people less tuned in to the specifics ofSoniclore.
Elements liketheTime Stones probably won’t make their way toSonic 4, but the planet they come from could. Little Planet itself appearing would be a great showcase of the wider universe, while still keeping the new additions digestible for people less tuned in to the specifics ofSoniclore.
The idea of a small planet making its way to Earth, or a future version of Earth if theSonic 4time-travel theoriesare correct, is a very simple concept to understand. It could also introduce a lot of interesting lore to the movies for the first time and pave the way for greater expansion beyond Earth afterSonic the Hedgehog 4.
