A few days ago, Paramount Pictures shared its firstteaser posterfor the forthcomingSonic the Hedgehogmovie, which revealed a redesigned look for the titular character that contained a lot more anthropomorphic features than many expected. Now, it appears as if the team behind the Blue Blur’s motion picture were eyeing several actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to lend their voices to the project and bring him to life–that is, if leaked documents are to be believed.
As seen in the tweet below, an internal poster that was supposedly made about a year ago for theSonic the Hedgehogmovie shows thatGuardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt,Captain America’s Chris Evans,Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd, andBlack Panther’s Michael B. Jordan were early picks to play the character “Officer Tom”. Not only that, but also Pratt and Rudd were being considered for Sonic’s voice early on, too, as well asSpider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland.
For those unaware, none of the actors listed in the memo above will be attached to either of the roles in theSonic the Hedgehogmovie, as James Marsden (X-Men,HBO’sWestworld) has been cast as Officer Tom, while Ben Schwartz (Night School, TV’sParks & Recreation) is voicing Sonic. So, at this point, all those looking forward to the film have to do is wait for Paramount to release the first full trailer to get an idea of how well the parts suit them and vice-versa.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see if Paramount manages to find critical and box office success in itsSonic the Hedgehogmovie, as a wide margin of the general public still agrees thatvideo game movies are often mediocre or downright bad. Whether it be the latest iteration ofTomb Raiderthat released this year, or the live-actionRampagemovie, it seems as if the film industry has yet to get the formula right. So, here’s to hoping that upcoming projects likeDetective PikachuandSonic the Hedgehogmanage to set new and positive expectations for filmgoers.
