It’s the Perfect Time for Plague RX to Take on Spider-Man
Spidey’s Recent Beating Makes Medical Intervention Perfectly On-Theme
Fans don’t yet know why there are two Spider-Men. After Spidey wasbeaten to a pulp by fantasy villain Hellgate, the comic jumped forward in time, revealing a cold-hearted Peter Parker. Some fans believe that Peter’s better nature has been transferred to its own body, while others think Peter is in space, with his clone Ben Reilly acting as the Spider-Man of New York.
Whatever the reason, the new status quo sees a swashbuckling Spidey off in space, while a more brutal Wall-Crawler battles crime in New York. Taking the name of ‘the Resolute Spider-Man’, this Spidey wears the classic red and blue with bracers over his wrists and ankles. It’s this Spider-Man who will face off against Plague RX and their mysterious power. It’s the right time to give Spider-Man a medical-themed villain, since he’s still reeling from one of his most brutal beatings of all time, admitting,“I register cold, exposure… but I feel nothing.”

With Tombstone currently acting as the big bad of Marvel’s New York, Plague RX may be his strong right hand, recreating the Kingpin/Bullseye dynamic. Alternatively, they may be exactly the monster they look like - the type of villain against who the new, not-so-friendly Spider-Man can really cut loose. As Marvel barrels towards the historicAmazing Spider-Man #1000, Peter Parker is tackling a wild new status quo, filled with allies and villains like nothing he’s had to deal with before.
