It’s been a long time since Konami’s classicSuikodenfranchise received a new entry, but several of the series’ key developers are set to provide fans with the next best thing: a spiritual successor calledEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. What’s more, with enough money, this ode toclassic PlayStation-era JRPGswill be available to play on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5.

As announced last week, aKickstarter campaign forEiyuden Chroniclewent live today and has already managed to surpass its base goal of $500,000, having earned around $691,000 as of this writing. This guarantees that Rabbit & Bear Studios, a newly-formed developer made up ofSuikodenveterans including series creator Yoshitaka Murayama, will be able to bring the game to PC.

Beyond that, Rabbit & Bear wants to bring the game to consoles, specifically naming the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X as the platforms it’s planning to portEiyuden Chronicleto. In order for that to happen, though, theKickstartercampaign must first raise $1 million, as the console ports are locked behind that stretch goal.

However, in an attempt at transparency with backers, the studio stressed that it might not be able to guarantee ports for all of the listed platforms even if the goal is met. In particular, it mentioned the challenge of trying to downscale a game on a similar scale to theSuikodengamesfor lower-spec consoles like the Switch. Whether that means a Switch port is less likely than, say, a PS5 one will ultimately depend on how much money the campaign receives.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroesis tentatively slated to launch in October 2022 for PC, with plans for ports on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
