Rockstar’s recentGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Editionwas built up by a lot of hype for new graphics and cleaner gameplay. Now theGTA Trilogyis out and has some ofthe lowest scores ever on Metacritic.

Many of the questionable actions that Rockstar and its parent Take-Two Interactive did in the lead-up to theGTA Trilogyrelease would likely have been glossed over if it proved to be a good remaster. However, it quickly became clear that it is anything but, and as players continue to express their extreme disappointment, Take-Two is suffering financial backlash.

Take-Two Interactive’s stock has plummeted alongside theGTA Trilogy’s release, dropping a startling amount in just one day. While it is by no means a major low for the company’s stock within the year, it is a steep drop for such a short amount of time. While there is no direct correlation documented, it’s not hard to see what is causing this stock price.Players are even demanding refunds for theGTA Trilogy, and when players start asking for their money back, the company responsible is in trouble.

There are a lot of problems with theGTA Trilogy, with many players pointing out how many changes are downgrades from the originals which, again, are no longer available for purchase now that theTrilogyhas been released. Some of the problems include a lack of music tracks that the previous versions sported. But since they were still in the files, the PC version was pulled from storefronts for a while. Beyond that, there are graphical issues that defy belief, including someridiculous rain effectsof all things. And of course, there are numerous bugs.

The remaster certainly has not inspired much confidence in Take-Two Interactive, since fixing games up is usually the point of a remaster and this trilogy fixes very little. In some cases, it made things worse, withtypos noticed throughout theGTA Remastered Trilogy.

While some blame has been put on Grove Street Games, the company responsible for the actual development and porting of the games, it should be pointed out that the decision to use a developer primarily responsible for mobile game ports still came from Take-Two. Players are currently trying tosalvage theGTA Trilogythrough mods, and hopefully, they are not also stopped by Take-Two.
