The return ofMace Winduis something thatStar Warsfans and Mace Windu actor Samuel L. Jackson himself have long expressed interest in, and director ofThe MandalorianBryce Dallas Howard has provided some new insight into this possibility. Although it seemed Mace died inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sithwhen Palpatine sent him flying out the window,Star Warsmovies and TV showshave seen more bizarre returns than this, includingPalpatine’s resurrection. With Jackson backing the idea that Mace could have lived, rumors have been flying that this could be coming eventually.
PerThe Direct, Bryce Dallas Howard, one of the directors ofThe Mandalorian, has indicated thatshe has spoken with Dave Filoni regarding the possibility of Mace Windu’sStar Warsreturn. Sadly, though, Howard explained:

“I want to work with Sam Jackson, just no matter what, in any circumstance. And I also love working in Star Wars… And so, you know, I harass Dave Filoni a lot about a lot of things, and that’s just one, but, yeah, no, that was a fun conversation, but didn’t add up to anything.”
This update from Howard suggests that, at least for now, there isn’t any actual Mace Windu project in the works, although that doesn’t necessarily mean there never will be.

What Samuel L. Jackson’s Return Would Mean For Star Wars
The Return Of Mace Windu Would Be Thrilling
Although Bryce Dallas Howard’s recent comments suggest there are no official plans for Samuel L. Jackson’s return toStar Warsin the works, it doesn’t feel like that will permanently be the case. In fact, Howard has also confirmed that Jackson told her he would be interested in a project she directed, so with both Dallas on board as the director and Jackson on board as the lead, it certainly doesn’t feel like an impossibility. If this were ever a true possibility,it would be absolutely fascinating to see Mace Windu return inStar Wars.
In addition to being one ofStar Wars’most powerful Jedi, Mace Windu has had a unique role to play inStar Wars. After all, it was Mace who was present for Anakin Skywalker’s fateful decision to side with Palpatine, thereby sealing his fate as his new Sith apprentice. Getting to see what happened to Mace Windu after this, particularly given it would mean seeing Mace’s experience after Order 66, the fall of the Jedi Order and the Republic, and the rise of the Empire, would be a thrillingStar Warsstory.
Our Take On A Potential Mace Windu Return
It Would Be Fascinating To See Where This Story Could Go
Some may feel that Mace Windu’s return would be unnecessary or illogical, but I think this would actually make considerably more sense than some otherStar Warsresurrections. As Samuel L. Jackson has also pointed out,we didn’t really see Mace Windu with fatal injuries inRevenge of the Sith. He did lose his arm, but that wound would have been cauterized with the heat of the lightsaber blade, as so many hands and arms have been inStar Warsbefore. Likewise, we’ve seen many people shot with Force lightning over the years and live.
Even Mace getting thrown from the window doesn’t necessarily mean his death. Given his strength in the Force, he could have grabbed onto or landed on a passing ship. We’ve already seen Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker jump through the air of Coruscant and land on a ship, in fact. Given that, I think it would be brilliant to see Mace Windu returnand find out what happened to him after Order 66. Yes, Bryce Dallas Howard’s comments suggest noMace Winduproject is in the works, but withThe Mandaloriandirector still interested, it could one day be.
