The Nintendo Switch 2 version ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwill introduce several upgrades to the game, butone of the best may be locked behind theZelda Notesapp. Despite the excitement for Nintendo’s next console, many players have questioned the company’s strategy of “upgrading” older games to take advantage of the Switch 2’s extra power. Some of the improvements made toBreath of the Wildmay result in a smoother experience, but the fact that they’re locked behind an external mobile app seems like an unnecessary hurdle.

PerVGC, YouTuberZeltiknoted in a recent hands-on with the game thattheZelda Notesapp hands out random daily bonuses, one of which is “equipment repairs.“It appears that additional items are randomly distributed every day, so there’s only a chance players could land on the item that presumably allows them to fix a weapon that’s on the verge of shattering. Given how frustrating this mechanic can be, fans have questioned why the item is both restricted to theZelda Notesapp and reduced to a random drop that requires users to simply be lucky.

Weapon Repairs Should Be A Normal, But Rare, Item

Making It Accessible Through Zelda Notes Is Annoying

Breath of the Wildis still widely regarded as one of thebest games ever made, but the constant need to scavenge new weapons was a sore point for many fans. It’s undoubtedly annoying to have Link’s most powerful axe shatter in the middle of a Lynel fight, which makes theintroduction of a repair itemexciting. Having said that,it stands to reason that such a drop would be rather rare, given that one of the core themes ofBreath of the Wildis making do with what can be found just lying around Hyrule.

It’s a solid idea to improve the game, but locking a repair item withinZelda Notesis a baffling choice. In fairness, it could be the case that’s also discoverable in-game, butsince Nintendo is clearly pushing the app as the best way to enjoyBreath of the Wildon Switch 2, it’s difficult to say for sure how the drops will be distributed. One should hope that weapon repairs can be gained after particularly challenging fights to at least justify all the effort players put into bringing down some of the game’s tougher opponents.

Weapon Degradation Is Always Annoying

Even In Breath of the Wild

I enjoy many things aboutThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Its aesthetic and soundtrack are some of the franchise’s best. Having said that,I can’t emphasize enough how much I loath weapon degradation; While I understand its existence in the game, I believe it activelyremoves an element of fun. Looking for weapons is engaging when it’s something I want to do, butwhen it becomes a choreI’m forced to complete repeatedly, it’s more of a frustration than anything else.
