Last month, veteran video game developerMichel Ancel announced his retirementfrom the industry, which had fans worried about the state ofBeyond Good and Evil 2. Immediately after the announcement, Ubisoft reassured fans that Ancel’s retirement won’t hurt the game’s development, which is in a playable state, according to the studio.
Now, Ubisoft released an update saying thatBeyond Good and Evil 2is progressing nicely. During the company’s latest earnings report, CEO Yves Guillemot reassured fans by saying that Ubisoft is happy with the development ofBeyond Good and Evil 2, and a gameplay preview is expected to release in 2021. At the moment, Guillemot didn’t go into detail as to what players can expect in the upcoming game, but fans should rest easy that everything is as it should be. A release date is still unknown, but given that 2020 is about to end, it won’t be before 2021 at the very earliest.

Meanwhile, Netflix confirmed several months ago that it would be bringing theBeyond Good and Evilfranchise to film. According to the streaming giant, the film will be directed by Rob Letterman, who is known for his other movie adaptations of popular video games such asthe box office hitDetective Pikachu.
The upcoming film will be a “hybrid live-action/animated feature” and produced by Ubisoft Film and Television, who also co-produced theAssassin’s Creedfilm. During the film’s initial announcement, it has been reported that the project is still in its early stages, anddetails about theBeyond Good and Evilmovieare still being kept under wraps except that it is in pre-production. Hopefully, Netflix releases more information soon, including a debut trailer and a release date.
