Toby Fox, the creator ofUndertale, provides a small update on the game’s follow-upDeltarune. Its second chapter is currently in the works following its first chapter releasing over two years ago.
Undertalequickly became a cult classic indie gameafter being crowdfunded in significant excess. Toby Fox’s goal for the Kickstarter was initially $5,000, but resulting in donations by tenfold of $51,124 thanks to over 2,300 supporters. ThoughUndertalewas in development for about 32 months,Deltarune’s development time has been somewhat longer, but seemingly because Fox aims to make it a bigger game than its predecessor. Dissimilar toUndertale,Deltaruneis currently being developed episodically, though Fox’s original plan was to release the full game in one package once it’s complete.

After his last update in September whereFox posted someDeltarunescreenshotsand said that its second chapter was about 80% finished, the developer commented on an old post to say that “Chapter 2’s development is going well!” He continues, “Not sure what else to say, but I feel positive about it.”
Deltarune’s first chapter released back in 2018 for free, but there’s currently no release date or window for the rest of the game, though it was that that Chapter 2 would be done before the end of 2020. Also, it’s unclear how many chaptersDeltarunewill encompass, but several more chapters might mean it could be years beforeUndertalefans finally get the fully-released long-awaited follow-up. Hopefully, however, this small update serves as a teaser forDeltarune’s second chapter releasesoon to come.
Critics' responses toDeltarune’s first chapter were mostly positive, however, it naturally garnered many comparisons toUndertale, most of which were favorable but some felt that it was just “more of the same"elements seen inUndertale.
Deltaruneis currently in development.
