With April Fool’s Day following closely after Bungie’s bigDestiny 2revealearlier this week, the moderators of theWarframesubreddit figured the conditions were perfect to poke fun at the constant comparisons fans make between Digital Extremes' free-to-play third-person shooter and Bungie’s action-RPG by changing the former title’s forum to look likeDestiny’s. So, for any gamer who decided to visit both of the pages today and thought they were taking crazy pills, they should be pleased to know they aren’t in fact completely losing their minds, as the change-up is just a temporary gag.
Interestingly enough, according to theDestinysubreddit moderator MisterWoodhouse, theDestinyandWarframemods were in on the April Fool’s Day prank together all along, as they collaborated to make the free-to-play title’s forum look just like the one for Bungie’s science fiction shooter. As MisterWoodhouse wrote, “For those who are wondering, we fully signed off on their joke, well in advance. They came to us for permission and we were more than happy to give it.”
With this being the case, some gamers may be pondering whyDestiny’s subreddit didn’t pull a switcheroo itself to have the page resembleWarframe’s to bring the joke full circle. As it happens, MisterWoodhouse explained that the moderators were completely okay with being fuddy-duddies as they are “not huge on April Fool’s Day.”
All things considered, it’s nice to see that bothDestinyandWarframe’s online communities are able to take a joke in stride and simply have a laugh at themselves without degenerating into an argument about whether or not one game is a ripoff of the other and vice versa. Bearing this in mind, one can only hope that theDigimon GOandPokemon GOfan bases can take a minute to patch things up and appreciate one another.
Warframeis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, whileDestiny 2is set to release on July 06, 2025 for the same aforementioned platforms.
