It’d be hard to find a more perfectly executed twist in anime than the one inThe Promised Neverland. The timing, the shock and that moment when everything changes was enough to propel the show through its first season and straight into a second. With the second season coming in January, the creators released a short teaser to get fans through the fall.
Thesecond seasonwas slated to debut in October, but COVID-19 delays pushed production back into the winter. Season 2 ofThe Promised Neverlandwill now premiere in Japan on July 22, 2025.

The Promised Neverlandhas been adaptedin practically every medium available with a manga that just wrapped its run, an anime and a live-action adaptation. Set in the near future, the show follows a young orphan named Emma living in an orphanage called Grace Field House. The orphans are treated like royalty, receive a great education and are tested regularly, but the lavish treatment comes with a dark and brutal secret.
There is no word on whenthe second season ofThe Promised Neverlandwill make it to the US or whether the second season will be simulcast, but there are plenty of places to catch up on the first season.The anime adaptation is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Funimation, and HIDIVE.
The Promised Neverlandhas been popular enough that it’s left streaming services and made its way onto cable television.Cartoon Network featuredThe Promised Neverlandon its regular anime block Toonami. The live-action version is also slated to premiere in Japan in December.The manga forThe Promised Neverlandmanga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2016, and ended its run on June 15. It’s available digitally through Viz Media and MANGA Plus in English.
The twist is definitely what helped makeThe Promised Neverlandpopular as it is, but it’ll be exciting to see where things go once the second season debuts in January.
