Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis now more likely to go for the one thing fans have asked for theMarvel Cinematic Universemovie to do now that the next Avengers movies have suffered delays. So far, not much has been revealed about theMCU’s next Spider-Man movie. The cast confirmed to return includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, whileZendaya’s MJ will reportedly play a minor role this time around, which would be fitting.

After all,Spider-Man: No Way Home’s endingsaw Doctor Strange’s spell make the world forget who Peter Parker was, with Holland’s character choosing to leave MJ in the dark to keep her safe.Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s storyrumors have been flying around over the past year, ranging from a Daredevil team-up to Black Cat’s MCU debut to symbiotes and Venom to the Spider-Men returning in a multiversal film to more. After the latest update to the MCU’s movie slate, I believeone direction for the Spider-Man movie has become more likely.

Marvel Has Delayed The MCU’s Next Two Avengers Movies & Made Schedule Changes

The MCU’s Biggest Events Now Take Longer To Arrive

WhileThunderbolts*ended up being an Avengers movie in disguise, transforming the team led by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova into the MCU’s New Avengers, a proper film based on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has not been released since 2019’sAvengers: Endgame. That is why I am so excited forAvengers: Doomsdayto change that in 2026, with the debut of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, Fox’s original X-Men entering the action, and many MCU heroes coming together.

However, fans will have to wait longer for that ambitious film, asMarvel has delayedAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars.Avengers: Doomsdayhas moved from June 14, 2025, to June 03, 2025, whileAvengers: Secret Warsfollows a similar pattern, going from August 09, 2025, to August 02, 2025. The studio also removed a February 2026 date for an “Untitled Marvel” movie while transforming the August 18, 2025, and August 06, 2025, dates for MCU releases into “Untitled Disney” movies. Besides giving more time to get the Avengers movies right, the delays can heavily impactSpider-Man: Brand New Day.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Now Releases Before Avengers: Doomsday

A Multiverse-Focused Spider-Man Movie Now Makes Less Sense

In the MCU’s original release order, Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie would have served as a bridge between the next two Avengers films in the franchise’s slate. However, now that Marvel has delayed the next two Avengers movies,Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis set to arrive in theaters beforeAvengers: Doomsday, withthe Sony/Marvel movie keeping its Jun 19, 2025, release date for the moment. That got me thinking about how Marvel can do what a lot of fans want.

Spider-Man: No Way Homewas a massive event that brought together Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s versions of Spider-Man. The actors had brilliant chemistry, and I hope the MCU uses that again in the future. However,Spider-Man: No Way Homehad set up the perfect street-level continuation of the story of the MCU’s Peter Parker, with the hero stripped back down to the basics, and I feel like a sprawling multiversal story forSpider-Man: Brand New Daywould have gone against that.

How The MCU Can Have The Street-Level Spider-Man Movie That No Way Home Set Up

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Has To Be Built Up Again

WhenSpider-Man: Brand New Daywas set to be released between the next two Avengers movies, I felt like there was no way the film could be anything but a multiverse story. After all, I believe the most logical wayAvengers: Doomsdaycould end is withRobert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom becoming all-powerful and creating Battleworldas he did in the comics, which would lead toAvengers: Secret Wars. A street-level Spider-Man movie would not fit into those plans.

However, now that the MCU’s next Spider-Man will be released beforeAvengers: Doomsday, the film does not have to continue any plotlines and major franchise changes set up by the Avengers movie. As such, the door is open forSpider-Man: Brand New Dayto be a smaller, street-level story that focuses on building Peter Parker back up afterSpider-Man: No Way Hometook everything from him. Exciting characters like Mister Negative, Scorpion, Kingpin, and Black Cat would all fit that direction, and I hopeSpider-Man: Brand New Daytakes it, making the most out of the Avengers movies' delays.
