A new character who served as Angie Polaski’s replacement arrived inWill Trentseason 3, butafter her underwhelming run, the show must bring her back for its fourth season. The main cast of the ABC police procedural series has remained largely unchanged since its premiere in January 2023. Ramón Rodríguez leads the group of actors as the titular character. Meanwhile, Erika Christensen’s Angie, Iantha Richardson’s Faith Mitchell, Sonja Sohn’s Amanda Wagner, and Jake McLaughlin’s Michael Ormewood round out the rest ofthe mainWill Trentcast. However, another face joined them at the beginning of season 3.
According to a report fromTVLine, ABC is holdingWill Trentseason 4 for midseason, meaning it won’t premiere until early 2026. When it returns, though, it will contain 18 episodes that air weekly without interruption (barring any unavoidable programming schedule changes).

In the wake oftheWill Trentseason 2 finale, Will and Angie’s romance was in pieces in season 3. He had arrested her, effectively fracturing their chances of getting a happily ever after. So, they both had to move on from one another. Angie started dating someone else (after promptly getting out of jail and securing her job back at the Atlanta Police Department), and so did Will. Unfortunately forWill Trent’s protagonist, his relationship with his Angie replacement didn’t last for very long, despite the show presenting her as an important (main) character early in the season.
Will Trent Season 3 Never Really Gave Marion A Fair Chance
Will’s Tragedy Pushed Marion Out Of The Show
Gina Rodriguez’sMarion Alba made her firstWill Trentseason 3 appearance during the premiere, which took place only six months after Will arrested Angie. He was still feeling raw from his heartbreak, and although Will shared chemistry with Marion, he obviously wasn’t ready to start dating again. Thankfully, the series waited a few episodes to push them together. Will and Marion didn’t officially start dating until episode 6,and at first, it seemed like they had a real chance to succeed as a couple. However, that was never true, as proven in episode 12.

The odds were always stacked againstMarion and her relationship with Will inWill Trentseason 3. He did a good job of hiding it, butWill wasn’t ready to be dating anyone after what happened between him and Angie. Then, when Will accidentally shot and killed a young teenager in episode 11, it was clear that he had to process all his trauma before committing himself to someone. Consequently,Will Trentnever gave Marion a real chance. Will broke up with her in episode 12, and Marion was only seen once after that during a dream dance sequence in episode 13.
The problem between Will andMarion inWill Trentseason 3wasn’t that they were incompatible. Instead, they just had awful timing. In all actuality, Will and Marion had great potential, as Ramón Rodríguez and Gina Rodriguez shared fantastic chemistry (as proven by their first kiss in Will’s kitchen).

The ABC police procedural series simply didn’t take advantage of Will and Marion’s dynamic. It could have been powerful (and strong enough to convince fans that Will belongs with Marion instead of Angie). ButWill Trentdecided to extinguish their flame before it could ever fully form.
Will Trent Season 4 Needs To Bring Back Marion (Even If She Isn’t Will’s Endgame)
Gina Rodriguez’s Character Never Got Full Closure
Based on what happened between them in season 3, it’s unlikely that Will and Marion will end up together by the time the show comes to a close. However, that doesn’t mean that Gina Rodriguez shouldn’t reprise her role asMarion inWill Trentseason 4. Will and Marion’s relationship (and Marion herself) never got the closure it needed and deserved.Their story doesn’t feel finished. As a result, it would be wise forWill Trentto bring Marion back in season 4, even if it’s only for one episode, allowing Will and Marion to officially move on.
