ABC’s hit procedural,Will Trent, can open up so many possibilities if it adapts the Karin Slaughter novel,Undone, for its upcoming season 4. There have been more faithful book-to-screen adaptations, asWill Trenthas changed much from Karin Slaughter’s books. The ABC showhasditched the darker tone and avoided the more violent content.

However, the changes made have not compromised the main character. In fact, one thing thatWill Trenthas kept from Karin Slaughter’s booksis the spirit of Will Trent himself, particularly his resilience as a character. That’s exactly whyWill Trentseason 4 has an opportunity to bring a big part of the character and the world into the TV show if it were to adaptUndone, which combines characters from theWill Trentseries and herGrant Countyseries, setting up an introduction of a key figure.

Adapting Undone Would Finally Introduce Sara Linton To Will Trent Season 4

The Grant County Coroner Is A Big Part Of The World & Spinoff Books

The crime-solving trauma doctor, Sara Linton, did not physically appear in the third season, though theWill Trentseason 3 finalehinted at an opportunity to introduce her. During the finale, a viral outbreak occurred in a hospital; the near-disaster would be enough reason to bring in the good doctor, who plays a significant role in the book series.

The terrorist group, known as the Founders Front, could be a bigger threat than Will had imagined. Although Will managed to stop their planned outbreak with an antitoxin, he did not apprehend the ringleader. If the Founders Front returns, Sara could pop right in and use her medical knowledge to prevent another disaster.

It Could Set Up The Grant County Books As A Spinoff Backdoor Pilot

The Grant County Books Would Make For A Great Spinoff Series

If theWill Trentcreators prefer to opt out of the Founders Front plot, the Grant County Mysteries still have a plethora of new characters and even more potential dangers. Perhaps, Will decides to take a vacation and travels to a different setting far from home. In the backdoor pilot, the agent becomes the odd one out among the locals before he ends up crossing paths with Sara.

WhileWill Trentis a cop drama, the spinoff could become a medical procedural. With her background as a coroner, Sara could investigate mysterious deaths after collecting evidence from the crime scene. It’s not a wholly original premise, butWill Trent’s success has shown that with a slight tonal tweak and great characters, a procedural spinoff could thrive.

Will Trent Is Prime For A Spinoff With Crossover Potential

It’s Time To Expand The World Of Will Trent

The crossover might still take place if Sara and Will are in a long-distance relationship. Will could wind up visiting Sara and helping her investigate a mysterious case. Work may keep them apart, but deep down inside, Will knows he has found his true love.

Will has had a string of bad luck when it comes to relationships. Will’s ex, Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen), is carrying the baby of another man. He also happens to be pining for Marion Alba (Gina Rodriguez). Although the two did not ignore their emotions, the lovebirds left their status open-ended after sharing an intimate kiss. Perhaps, Will has just been meeting the wrong girl at the right time the past three seasons.

Will Trentreturns for Season 4 sometime in 2026.

With the fourth season ofWill Trentcoming up, this is the perfect opportunity to bring in Sara Linton. The arrival of a major character from the books could bring in the potential of expanding the special agent’s universe. Hopefully, viewers and readers will also see Sara and Will as the romantic endgame.
