AlthoughThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildreviewshave rated the game incredibly positively, the Nintendo RPG isn’t perfect. This much was discovered by one person playingBreath of the Wildon the Nintendo Switch, as they came across a ridiculous bug that crashed the game.

As shown in the video below, the utterly bizarre bug occurs when the player tries to fast travel to the same spot that their horse is standing on. Instead of just being able to go on their merry way, getting back on the horse, and riding off across the plains,Breath of the Wildcrashes instead and ‘softlocks’ the console.

Fixing a softlock is simple enough as the player just has to restart their console. It is nowhere as serious as theNintendo Switch blue screen of deathor the other hardware issues that some Switch players have reportedly come across.

While it always seemed unlikely that Nintendo would launch the game with huge, game-breaking bugs – especially given how much sales of the Switch counted on the game being good – manyThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildplayers have commented on how bug free the game is. It is especially surprising that the game isn’t more buggy given the variety of things to do.

The Switch launch title is no small game, withBreath of the Wildeven including its very own language, and yet it still mostly avoids frequent bugs that players are likely to come across. On social media, players have praised Nintendo’s commitment to quality assurance, saying that the company has done a good job at making a game free of technical headaches.

The only hope is that this same attention applies to the rest of the console’s big, first-party titles. For example,Super Mario Odysseywill also feature plenty of exploration and world-exploring. While that’s not quite the same as BOTW’s open-world gameplay, it does mean that there’s plenty of opportunity for bugs to rear their ugly faces. If that game is to be as much as a system seller then Nintendo will have to take the same care.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis now available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
